”Every so often I get little surprises come through my letter box, companies send me free gear to look at and review, some of it’s good, some of it’s not so good, I stringently test all stuff sent to me and only the best makes it onto blokebuddy to set before my readers eyes, and today I bring you agwa!
Basically this stuff is about to explode all over the UK party scene, word is getting around about this drink and for good reason…its simply awesome. In essence agwa is a liqueur, made from pure Bolivian cocoa leaf, plus other botanical’s like Guarana and Ginseng. When I first heard about it I thought it was some sort of hippy herbal drink, but no fellas its booze, 30% ABV worth of booze, and its absolutely delicious.
I could bang on about the history and the distillation process but you can get all that info from their website here.
The drink itself has a light peppery note to it with hints of mint, green tea and a citrus after taste, sounds a bit girly I know but it is nice. It doesn’t have the harsh after taste that some liqueurs have and so makes a pleasant drink that you can easily neck all night.
Now I tried out a few of the cocktail recipes and I liked all of them, so I will share some of them with you.
Bolivian Kiss
Simple one this and is similar to a tequila slammer, but is actually pleasant to drink.
- Take a slice of lime and bite into it
- Take a shot of agwa
- Feel the buzz!
Agwa Charger
This one is really nice, very refreshing and really makes you hyper, simply mix some agwa with your favourite energy drink.
Bolivian Mojito
Make a traditional mojito, but replace the rum with agwa
Agwa and ginger ale
This one is my favourite, it’s crushed ice, 2 measures of agwa and 3 measures of good ginger ale, its refreshing and gives a peppery note to the drink.
Agwa and cranberry
Simply mix fresh cranberry juice with as much agwa as you like, really delicious.
You can do all sorts with it, you could make a punch out of it if you liked, I have had it neat as well and its just as nice on it’s own. Fellas I really recommend you go try it,
Oh and the reason I call it super booze is because even after necking a bottle of this stuff, I woke up feeling utterly brilliant, clear head and fresh, not that I promote getting wasted all the time but heck its better than having that normal feeling after a session, go try!”
